Borneo is very rich in biodiversity compared to all the other parts of the world. Its unique tropical rainforest consists of old daunting trees surrounded by thousands of plants and flowers. It is home to many endangered animals such as the Proboscis monkeys, Orang Utans, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants and Clouded leopards. You have the chance to see some of these rare animals in over 20 National parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries in Sarawak and in more than 10 Nature establishments in Sabah.
The population of Malaysian Borneo is made up of various ethnical groups. There is a wide range from the dreaded Dayak headhunters over the nomadic Bajau sea gypsies to the immigrated Chinese and the Muslim Malays. Each of them has its own religion and traditions, every group, even it is a minority, got its place to worship; so you can find churches, Chinese and Hindu temples and mosques close-by to each other. In the rural areas still a lot of animism is practiced, which means the people believe in good and bad spirits of the nature.
